INTRODUCTION This is a Non-certificated Course Students following the course will develop an awareness of the techniques and skills involved in the production of Technical Drawings and Presentation Material used within the construction and architectural industries. Students will be introduced to a variety of techniques including both Manual and Computer Assisted Graphic skills and methods used to generate presentation and display material.
AREAS OF STUDY The following outlines the specific areas of study which the students will experience while following the course, however many of these topics will be integrated into a number of projects to be undertaken by the student as they progress. Technical Graphics skills are used to develop the students understanding of 2 dimensional orthographic techniques in the production of Elevations, End Elevation and Floor Plans of Buildings and associated structures. Pictorial Drawing techniques will also be introduced to students to enable others to visualize both internal and external concepts within Building Design. Students will encounter a number of Illustration Techniques used to present ideas. Rendering skills covered range from pencil rendering to airbrush work. Layout skills will also be investigated, looking at the integration of Graphic Images and Text.
Skills encountered within the Technical Graphics elements will be developed further within the use of Computer Aided Drawing techniques. Work covered will initially focus on 2D draughting techniques. However these will be developed further to include 3D modelling skills. Software used within the CAD elements is that which is used extensively within both the Construction and Architectural Industries. PROGRESSION
Students following the above course will develop skills to enable them to progress to courses offered at Standard Grade and Intermediate Level in Graphic Communication and Product Design.
