S3 Production Team: A Night to Remember!
The S3 Drama class at Dalbeattie High School presented the first ever performance written, performed and produced entirely by pupils at the school. Inspired by Romeo and Juliet, pupils developed their own ideas for story, characters and an unexpected twist in the plot for their modern adaptation of the play A Twist of Fate. The class took responsibility for the whole production, displaying an exceptional degree of maturity. S3 Lighting Technician Ewan Gourlay rigged, plotted and operated lights; Sound Technician Sam Glendinning researched sound effects to create a spooky, haunting funeral scene, and Costume Designer Kirsty Smith won over the audience with her powerful costume for a gangster chief. The talented and committed team of actors not only performed beautifully (Jack Beresford’s Italian American Accent was a particular highlight), they wrote the script, planned the movement and even directed each other.
A Twist of Fate was created especially for the class’ Intermediate 1 examination. This is the first year the course has been at Dalbeattie High School and pupils have found the experience challenging and exciting: “It’s been hard work but I’m really glad I did it. It has really helped my confidence. Two years ago, I would have never believed I could get up on stage in front of an audience.” Drama teacher Fiona Cole comments “It has been very exciting to work with young people at Dalbeattie High School. There is so much talent, determination and drive that I am sure better and better things are to come.”
