Geography Students Attend Conference in Dalkeith

On Friday 26th  March a group of 10 students from the Intermediate and Higher Geography classes travelled to Dalkeith, just outside Edinburgh to attend the annual Revision Conference. The event is organized by SAGT (The Scottish Association of Geography Teachers) and involves a series of lectures and seminars by teachers and SQA Examiner from all over Scotland.

The event provides a great chance for students to review and revise many parts of their courses and to hear information from a range of teachers who specialize in different areas.

A variety of topics were covered, some more effectively than others. Possibly this wasn’t the best conference we’ve attended with one or two lectures falling short of expectations but the students were attentive and focused all day and made the most of it.

This event also offers a glimpse of a university style education with some lectures involving more than 300 students at a time. Providing a range of learning experiences, such as this one and broadening horizons generally is one of the key aims of the school’s attempts to ensure our curriculum here is ‘excellent’.

Given the early start time (6.30am in the school car park), the travel involved and the concentration required for hour upon hour of teaching and lecturing, it shows considerable determination on the part of the students involved to have made such an effort. The pay-off will, no doubt, be seen in the exam hall in a few weeks time.
