The devastating magnitude 7.0Mw earthquake which struck Port O’ Prince, the capital of Haiti last month, killed around 180,000 people and left millions homeless. The country is in desperate need of Medicines,
food and water as well as building materials and machinery.
Pupils and staff of Dalbeattie High School are determined to do what they can to raise funds for the struggling Haitians. On 11th March, 5th and 6th year pupils are invited to sleep over in the gym hall of the school – for a small contribution of £5 each.
Students can raise extra money through a sponsorship scheme should they wish to do so. As well as raising funds for the appeal, the event will help deepen students’ understanding of the effects of disasters and dislocation on the pattern of everyday life.
Anyone who wishes to sponsor the students can contact Dalbeattie High School on 01556 610 445.
