In S1 pupils follow an introductory course which allows them to experience all aspects of the subject.
AREAS OF STUDY IN S1
Topic 1 – Ready, Steady Cook
This unit takes a look at safety and hygiene in the home and kitchen with practical food activities used to reinforce knowledge and develop skills.
Topic 2 – Home and A Weigh
This unit looks at the importance of weighing and measuring accurately, how to use kitchen equipment safely and effectively. Again this unit has practical food activities to reinforce knowledge and develop skills.
Topic 3 – Fun with Fabric
This unit is a unit which looks at the safe use of sewing equipment and the properties of fabrics. The pupils make a frog shaped beanbag.
Topic 4 – Fun with Food
This unit looks at nutrition and healthy eating. A more theory based unit of work with practical activities to show the importance of having a balanced diet.
