At the end of last term the school kindly received a large plot of ground to use in partnership with the NHS from the Dalbeattie Allotment group. We have started with our plans to develop the area into one that will hopefully match the productive allotments around it. The plan at this time is to have an area for flowers, small seating area and several large vegetable beds. This autumn, winter will be spent digging over the ground and laying out our garden plan ready for the spring. With the new Rural Skills course now having two classes more time will be able to be spent on the allotment. Our picture shows one some of the Rural Skills pupils surveying the allotment to begin the ground work. We forsee the whole school being involved in the allotment, with all age ranges taking part, so if any parent or carer would like to volunteer to help on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon we would welcome your help and enthusiasm. At present we are building up our collection of gardening tools and to date have gratefully received some garden tools no longer used. If anyone does have old tools no required and hidden at the back of a shed we would love to put them to good use.
