Cafe DG was launched in September 2006 as part of the Scottish Executive's "Hungry for Success" Secondary School Lunch Standards. The aim is to reduce salt , fat and sugar content in meals. The Hungry for Success Report published by the Scottish Executive in November 2002 contained 24 recommendations which had an impact on a range of agencies including the local authority schools, catering and pupils.
school lunches...
The school operates a cafeteria system where pupils can purchase from a set menu and then eat their lunch at the tables provided. The meals are prepared by a very able team run by Cafe DG, more information on the menus is available by clicking on the Cafe DG icon.
Pupils who bring packed lunches are welcome to consume these in the dining room, however food bought off the premises cannot be taken into the cafe.
Payment for meals is made using the Young Scotcard, a cashless catering system whereby pupils do not have to carry money with them.
