In Dalbeattie we are very lucky to have the expertise to be able to offer courses in four languages – French, German, Spanish and Mandarin.
Although all pupils start learning French as their first modern language, through that, they have been learning how to learn a foreign language, as well as increasing their understanding of their own language.
As effective contributors,
• we give answers in class
• we give good ideas in class, group or pair work
As confident individuals,
• We have a can do/will try attitude
• We know where to find the answers to questions
• We can work at our own initiative
As responsible citizens,
• we are respectful of the needs of others
• we are helpful and considerate of others
• we understand and accept that people in other countries
have different customs and a different way of life
As successful learners
• we think about how we learn best
• we do our best to achieve what we have to learn

• we think about how language works
Increasingly in today’s world of work, language skills are very much sought after. Not only those who have learned foreign languages exclusively, but also those who have trained or qualified in other career areas are expected to have a good expertise in at least one foreign language to be successful in today’s global community.
