Communications Physics aims to investigate communication in the world today and how it affects our lives and community. This course will provide a stimulating and broad introduction to Physical Sciences.

AREAS OF STUDY

This course will cover a broad range of basic Physics ideas and their uses by looking at three units.

Unit 1 Sound and Music

This unit builds our understanding of Sound Waves and the Speed of Sound; how

sound is used for Music; and how it is amplified in communications systems.

Unit 2 Electronics

This unit starts to develop understanding of simple Electronic Circuits by looking at

Input, Process and Output parts of circuits and the uses for Digital Logic Gates.

Unit 3 Telecommunications

This unit investigates different methods of communication including Radio, T.V.,  Satellite, Cable and Telephone systems.

Speed, Sparks and Suntans is a broad based Physics course which aims to give a

wide understanding of how the world and universe around us works. It will look at how phenomena such as gravity, electricity and radiations affect our everyday lives.

AREAS OF STUDY

This course will cover a broad range of basic Physical ideas and their uses by looking at three units.

Unit 1 Movement (Speed)

This builds on our understanding of movement and travel. It examines speed and acceleration and the forces which produce them. By understanding how forces and gravity affect objects, the first step in explaining how the universe works can be taken.

Unit 2 Electricity (Sparks)

This unit builds on an understanding of electricity and circuits. The concepts of electric current, voltage and resistance are introduced as well as practical work in circuit building and electrical safety.

Unit 3 Radiations (Suntans)

This unit investigates the different sources of radiation and examines the effects and uses of the different parts of the Electromagnetic Spectrum. It aims to inform on the benefits and harmful applications of radiations and their impact on our everyday lives.

PROGRESSION

Progression from this will be onto Standard Grade or Intermediate Physics and ultimately onto Higher/Advanced Higher Physics.
